Khon Kaen

Morris(s) Mini

VW Bus which was a coffee shop

Vintage Vespa

The only thing I managed to take photos of in Khon Kaen was cars/moving vehicles. Strange, but true.
I seem to do this quite a bit.
La Senza Pink and Black polka dot Bug
There was a pink VW bug at the shopping centre I worked at in Melbourne.

One of the strangest things I have been asked while I have been in Thailand is
"Do you shower with the same water?"
Me - "Yes"
"Then how do you stay so white?"

One of the things I get asked everyday is
"Do you eat Thai food? Is it spicy?"

Off to Vientiane tomorrow via Khon Kaen to grab some sushi.
Hoping Vientiane will exceed my expectations. One thing I am looking forward to is all the good cafes I have been reading about.

I do love the different look that comes from the iphone.

night sky

Canada Day '08

Yesterday was a long and busy day, very different from my usual lap of leisure.
I started the day off with a Skype call from the sister. As the day wore on I ended up in a rice field for 3 hours right beside my sisters mum and her sister.
How I hurt today.
To top it all off we went for a buffet dinner - squid, coconut ice cream and the most delicious sweet chilli sauce.

As we drove back the sky just seemed so close to the ground. I found that I had slightly forgotten about the night sky and how it makes you feel.

bits and pieces

As cities goes Melbourne was gorgeous. It was big enough to get lost in looking for a great macaron but you stepped into an outer suburb and felt a part of the community.

One of the biggest things I miss is the NGV - National Gallery of Victoria. Since this monster of a gallery was free I probably spent about every other weekend walking through. They even had some Rothko.

shoot from the hip

(portland - photo booth)
(fish eye)

Black and white, colour, film, digital, polaroid and photo booths, I love it all.
(polaroid)
(phone)
(film)

Buying lomography cameras you get a short book that contains photos that you hope to create.
They also include a slight set of rules
  • Take your camera everywhere you go.
  • Use it any time – day and night.
  • Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of it.
  • Try the shot from the hip.
  • Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible.
  • Don't think.
  • Be fast.
  • You don't have to know beforehand what you captured on film.
  • Afterwards either.
  • Don't worry about any rules.
Perusing camera sights is dangerous. The Nikon D7000 is looking oh so sweet. As I was looking (counting my pennies) The ice cream bike came by for the first time in what seems like weeks. Yumm

I also lucked out and had the most delicious battered freshwater crabs - including the shell.

smart went crazy

- Amazing patterned pants from the second hand market for $1.30 Boo Ya!

- This little one taking a bath is a riot (and not the ones that happened in Vancouver :( ). This was her first bubble bath. We did everything from beards to hats.

- My new favourite fruit!

I have already sent things home from here - uh oh. Mostly just winter things that I definitely won't need and a present for the sista.

Planning is one of my favourite things about travelling. I am looking at hostels and sights to see in Bangkok again. The difference about this time is there is no Dad to slow my shopping :) Sorry Dad but you do not enjoy countless hours of market shopping. Look out Chatuchak !

I am appalled at the response to the Stanley Cup. Seriously? You set cars on fire and loot stores in the downtown core. Gross!

I miss the ease of stepping out my front door being able to grab a piece of pizza, or chocolate. Fracturing a collar bone while travelling was not something I planned or have enjoyed.
Today was filled with spicy Som Tam (papaya salad) and sleeping till 9 - oh the luxury, and exasperated cries of Jasmine and I.

Funky Times

Today I was talking to a great friend and she was having one of those days. As am I, being woken up at 5 am is something that will always get me. I suggested she look at this list by one of my favourite bloggers.

(Phun, Thailand)

Yesterday I went to the market and scored second hand clothing! oh and a turban :)
